It seems like I always have trouble sleeping on the first night of these trips. Last night was no exception. Finally fell asleep about midnight. Then I woke up every hour. Don't know why. But The Navigator told me to knock it off because he was trying to sleep. Wise guy! At 4:30am I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. So I got up. The Navigator thought I was nuts!

We hit the road about 5am. First job was to take a pic of the Tennessee capital. See the pics below.

Then we headed for Little Rock, AR to take a pic of that capital. See below.

Since I started driving at 5am today, by 1pm or so I was feeling tired. So I pulled over and slept a half an hour. Did this again about 6pm. I'm afraid the days of me driving 16 straight hours are gone forever :)

The van's next oil change came due today. I thought about getting this done before we left Aiken but ran out of time. So, about 3pm I headed to a Wal*Mart to get the oil changed. And, wow, were they backed up! Told me they weren't taking any more customers today as they had enough to keep them busy till they close at 8pm.

However, there was a Penzoil store nearby. They got the job done in 10 minutes flat. Charged me $35, twice what Wal*Mart charges, but the oil got changed.

Then we headed up US-65 towards Missouri. This is a very pretty drive. Lots of pine trees. Most of the gas station in the smaller towns were charging $2.39 - $2.46 for regular. If they've started this early with the price jacking, I reckon by this sunmmer gas will easily hit $3.75.

Tonight we're camped at a TA Travel Center in Stafford, MO, just up the road from Springfield.

I've heard on the radio today that the weather is pretty nasty up North where we're going. May be very interesting :)

Capitol of Tennessee in Nashville. Picture taken at about 5:45am. This is moonset at about 6am. Beautiful full moon last night. The Pyramid in downtown Memphis, TN. Sports arena, etc. Another sign for June. This pic was pure luck. Shot through the windshield while driving on a bridge that crosses the Mississippi River from Tennessee into Arkansas. I was truly amazed it turned out so well.
Little Rock, Arkansas. The pundits are right... It does look like a mobile home (trailer) on stilts. Ugly. Can you spot the state capitol hiding in this picture? There it is, the capitol of Arkansas in Little Rock. Sky color enhanced via a polarizing filter.
This is a really neat Victorian home on the way out of Little Rock. I guess it's some type of business as there are large parking lots behind the house and to the left of the house. But there was no sign indicating what type of business. Strange. This business's building is shaped like a boat. Guess what kind of business this is? Did you guess correctly? Beautiful. Waving proudly!
Another sign for June. That white dot is the full moon.

From June in SC, more Profound Revelations:

The things that come to those that wait may be the things left by those who got there first.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Light a fire for a man and he'll be warm for an hour or so; light a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

The shin bone is a device for finding furniture.

When you go into court, you are putting yourself in the hands of 12 people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty.

From Tuni in FL:

The teacher asks:

"Davy, what sound does a cow make?" "It goes moo."

"Alice, what sound does a cat make?" "It goes meow."

"Jamie, what sound does a lamb make?" "It goes baaaa."

"Jennifer, what sound does a mouse make?" "It goes...click!"
