But first, an update...

You may recall that near the end of the Missing States I trip we visited Stigler, OK where an outdoor display of the Ten Commandments was under attack by the ACLU who wanted it removed.

I'm very happy to report a judge has ruled the display can stay. You can read about this ruling here.

Note that Jeff Latzke, author of the story and card-carrying, life-time member of the American Axis of Idiots, forgot (maybe on purpose?) to indicate where this took place. Oklahoma.

Sorry for the rant. IMHO, today's press is filled with folks who couldn't report their way out of a paper bag if their life depended on it.

Now... today's narrative...

This has been a great first day of the trip. Nice weather, sunny skies, interesting sights. We're off to a good start.

Most of the narration about the sites are in the descriptions of the pix below. We visited the capital and capitol of North Carolina today.

Right now we're parked in a hotel parking lot, "borrowing" their Internet access. I'm not sure where we'll sleep tonight. Somewhere around here.

Tomorrow Richmond, VA.

Pardon me for starting with a rant. But "South of the Border," which is in northern SC just south of the North Carolina border, has to be the most garish roadside sight I've ever seen. It's like the owners took a vow to make the place look as cheap, low class and trashy as possible. IMHO, they succeeded. June's first sign. Welcome to the Whirligig Farm... This is in Lucama, NC.
Hundreds (really!) of whirligigs. And all hand made. An awesome place! Hmmm... a water tower that looks like a baseball. Wonder why... Oh, I get it. It's an advertisement for the Carolina Mud Cats a Double A ball club in Zebulon, NC.
Here's the Mud Cat's stadium. Very nice! The North Carolina Capitol. One down, 47 to go :) Capitol info. A water tower as art? You betcha. Very pretty.
Here ya go, June.
