A note from Pat (continued):
The doctors have encouraged me to stop the trip and go home.

Today I was discharged from the hospital at 2pm. Charlie drove me to the airport and dropped me off for the flight to Phoenix.

I'm really sorry I can't complete the trip. I wish The Navigator and Charlie a good journey.

I'm really bummed that Pat has had to leave. She'll be missed. Please keep her in your prayers.

The hospital where she stayed overnight is 100% first class. I was very impressed.

The Navigator and I left Colorado Springs at 3pm and headed for the Garden of the Gods. These fantastic rock formations are awesome. See the pix below.

Next we went to Pike's Peak. But it was closed due to a hill race. Bummer.

So we continued the trip and drove to Santa Fe, NM where we are camped for the night.

Tomorrow we'll go take a pic of the capitol and then turn East on I-40.

The entrance. Huge, red sandstone rocks turned on end by the glaciers. Use the cars to get some perspective about how big the rock is.
One of the nice features of the park is that you drive through it. This pic taken from one of the numerous pull offs. Closed for race. Disappointing to say the least! Another pic for June.

From Leo in NJ:

A young blonde woman was driving through the Florida Everglades while on vacation. She wanted to take home a pair of genuine alligator shoes in the worst way, but was very reluctant to pay the high prices the local vendors were asking.

After becoming very frustrated with the attitude of one of the shopkeepers, the young Blonde declared, "Well then, maybe I'll just go out and catch my own alligator and get a pair of shoes for free!"

The shopkeeper said with a sly smile, "Well little lady, why don't you go on and give it a try?"

The blonde headed off to the swamp, determined to catch an alligator. Later in the day, as the shopkeeper is driving home, he spots the same young woman standing waist deep in the murky water, shotgun in hand.

As he brings his car to a stop, he sees a huge 12 foot gator swimming rapidly toward her. With lightning reflexes, the Blonde takes aim, shoots the creature and hauls it up onto the slippery bank. Nearby were seven more dead gators, all lying belly up. The shopkeeper stood on the bank, watching in silent amazement.

The blonde struggles mightily and manages to flip the gator onto its back. Rolling her eyes heavenward, she screams in frustration, "ARRGGH!! THIS ONE'S BAREFOOT, TOO!"
