Today we visited Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial.

To be honest, I was disappointed in the way the Mt. Rushmore National Memorial is handled. They built an ugly concrete parking garage right in front of the memorial between the road and the sculpture. Taking a good picture is almost impossible. 'Nuff said. See pix below.

The Crazy Horse Memorial will really be something when it is finished. See pic below.

This is the Black Hills area of South Dakota and there are many fantastic rock formations. See pix below.

And if you're a tunnel freak you'd be right at home here. A question: when is a tunnel not a tunnel? See pix below.

Tomorrow we're headed to Devil's Tower and then to Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Let me repeat the announcement made yesterday in case some of you missed it:

Several people have emailed and/or called wanting to know an email address where they can send suggestions and comments about this web site. Here's the address: This address will work only during the trip. After that it will once again suffer from benign neglect :)

Mt. Rushmore. Sorry the angle is bad. If you drive around to the side of Mt. Rushmore you can see this profile of George Washington, Father of our country. Another Mt. Rushmore pic, this time from the driveway leading up to the parking garage. Sorry it's not any better and sorry the Civil War President's face is a little covered. I was trying to get a better angle but was chased away by the Ranger who threatened to call the manager if I didn't leave. Crazy Horse. Well, part of Crazy Horse. Follow the link up above to see what this sculpture will look like when finished.
Interesting rock formation. The horizontal sediment layers have been turned vertical. This sign... Leads the way to this tunnel. Neat! This tunnel is not a tunnel until you get about 3/4 of the way through because the roof is not closed in. Very different.
Another rock formation. Interesting bridge.

From Leo in NJ:

The Congregation was sitting in their pews and talking a few minutes before the church services started when suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the front entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate.

Soon the church was empty except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seemingly oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy was in his presence.

So Satan walked up to the man and said, "Do you know who I am?"

The man replied, "Yep, sure do."

"Aren't you afraid of me?" Satan asked.

"Nope, sure ain't." said the man.

"Don't you realize I can kill you with one word?" asked Satan.

"Don't doubt it for a minute," returned the old man, in an even tone.

"Did you know that I can cause you profound, horrifying AGONY for all eternity?" persisted Satan.

"Yep," was the calm reply.

"And you are still not afraid?" asked Satan.

"Nope," said the old man.

More than a little perturbed, Satan asked, "Why aren't you afraid of me?"

The man calmly replied, "Been married to your sister for 48 years.
