In September, 2006, I decided to take a series of trips to visit all the state capitols. Except for Alaska and Hawaii :)
You can visit the State Capitols Overview page for information about prior trips which include the Northeast Tour, the Southeast Tour and the River States Tour. Now we're conducting the Midwest Tour. On all the trips over the last three years, we've been traveling/sleeping/eating/resting/etc. in a 2000 Chevy Cargo van. While on the River States Tour this past March I began to think about making a change to the type of vehicle we use. I have wanted to have better control over the environment in the sleeping quarters. And it would be nice to be able to have someone join me on a trip. This meant that the sleeping arrangements would have to change. In March, April and May I researched all sorts of alternatives. Long story short, in June I traded the van for a 2004 Ford Ranger Pickup Truck and bought a truck camper that sits in the bed of the truck. The camper has heat and air and two separate sleeping areas. Plus a refrigerator, a sink, a closet, etc. Hopefully we'll be traveling more comfortably. Pictures of this new rig will be sprinkled through the day pages.
Like the previous state capitals trips, The Navigator has laborously laid out the trip using the fantastic Street Atlas mapping software from DeLorme. He claims this software is one of the best investments he's ever made. Be sure to visit the "State Capitols We've Visited" page which is kinda fun. Test your knowledge about the states and their capitols. And now, come join us on the trip! Just click on one of the day pages above to get started. |
