In June of 2008, The Navigator and I had the privilege of driving the length of the Mississippi River. One of the goals of that trip was to cross every bridge that crosses the river. That goal went down the toilet due to very bad flooding along the river. Many of the bridges were closed.
Earlier this summer I began to think about a trip along the Savannah River, which is the state boundary between Georgia and South Carolina. As I began to research this trip I became more enthusiastic as I discovered this trip will include some unexplored, by me, areas of South Carolina and Georgia. I noticed there are 19 bridges which cross the river and decided to incorporate the "cross every bridge" goal from the Mississippi River trip into this trip. Here is a map showing the bridge locations. Interstate highways will be used very little on this trip; I-20 and I-520 in Augusta, GA cross the river. Much of the driving will be done on backroads, my fav way to travel. Come join us. Just click on one of the Day Pages above to get started. |
