Crashed until 4pm, then got up, ordered a Papa John's Pizza and started updating these pages.
Not much happening today, so let me tell you about something that happened yesterday. This was on I 57 which, for our purposes, runs south in Illinois from I 64. I had been talking with truckers on the CB. Someone was talking about an accident ahead that had shut the interstate. I turned on the radio and caught a local newscast. Seems a train loaded with full coal cars had derailed. Part of the derailment was on a bridge over the interstate. A coal car had dumped it's load of coal onto the interstate and then fallen off the bridge. It landed on an 18 wheeler. The driver was injured but expected to be ok. Poor driver. Can you imagine what that was like?
The state police closed the interstate in both directions while the mess got cleaned up. So we had to take a detour.
The detour took us on a road that ran roughly parallel to the interstate. Through many small towns. With all due respect, I suspect this was the most action some of these towns had seen in a long time. Local townspeople had gathered on the street corners just to watch all the traffic go by :) The truckers were making all sorts of unrepeatable comments on the CB. LOL!
Here's a link ^ to an article about this.
