Route 2 - Day 10 - Friday, July 02, 2004

 Today's Narrative

This bear is an example of "chainsaw art," which is pretty popular around here. I thought it was kinda neat because the bear and the statue's stand came out of the same tree. The bear is about eight feet tall. Big tree!!

OK, here's the rest of the cliff hanger from yesterday (I just know you've been anxiously waiting for this. I'll try and not disappoint :-p)
Here's some facts:

  1. The converter that died was bought at Wal*Mart (WMT).
  2. The tires on the van were bought at WMT. This purchase includes free rotation and balancing.
  3. It is time for an oil change, which WMT does.
Gee sounds like I need to find a WMT, doesn't it? But where is the nearest Wally World? I don't have a clue. So as I'm driving along on Route 2, I keep stopping in small towns and asking the locals. Some of them don't have a clue, either :) But the consensus of opinion seems to be Great Falls. Which is OK, but Great Falls is about 100 miles south of Route 2. After thinking about this for awhile, I decide to make a 200 mile detour and visit the WMT in Great Falls.

The Navigator bitches about the decision, but I give him a Greenie to shut him up!

And off we go to Great Falls, Montana. Nice town. And the WMT has everything I need. I swap the inverter and some additional cash for the next powerful model (150 watts vs 75 watts). But the oil change will have to wait until tomorrow morning as they are backed up and not taking any more customers today.

So, here I sit in the van in the WMT parking lot, the new, more powerful inverter humming away and I can update these pages for you guyz. Tomorrow I've got a 90 mile drive north on I 15 to get back to Route 2. And we're getting real close to "Going To The Sun Highway." Gonna be a highlight of the trip.

We'll be camping in the WMT parking lot tonight. Guess who's gonna be first in the oil change lane at 7am tomorrow morning?

Today we traveled from Culbertson, MT to Great Falls, MT.
