This trip starts in Fayetteville, NC. This is the second segment of our US Route 1 trip.

From Fayetteville we go north on I 95 to I 276 which is the loop around Philadelphia and take a left. At exit 351 we take another left which puts us on US 1 headed southwest.

We take US 1 through Philadelphia and cross the PA/MD state line. Then we go through Bel Air and head for Baltimore.

South of Baltimore US 1 parallels I 95 and we go through Catonsville, Laurel, and Silver Spring.

Then US 1 runs through Washington, DC near the Washington Monument, the Department of Agriculture, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and then crosses the Potomac River into Virginia. Our last visit to Washington, DC was very disappointing due to the crowds and traffic. Maybe this time will be better.

Once again US 1 parallels I 95. We'll go through Woodbridge, Dumfries (love that name :), Falmouth and Ashland. Then we'll enter Richmond, VA.

US 1 runs straight south through Richmond.

Coming out of Richmond, US 1 turns southwest away from I 95 and parallels I 85 through McKenny, Alberta and South Hill. We cross into North Carolina and go through Norlina, Franklinton and Wake Forest. Then we enter Raleigh.

Once past Raleigh, we'll go through Apex, Sanford, Southern Pines and Rockingham. Then we'll enter South Carolina.

In SC, we'll pass through Cheraw, McBee, Cassatt, Camden, Lugoff and Columbia, the state capitol.

US 1 runs almost due west out of Columbia over to Lexington. Then US 1 turns southwest and goes through Batesburg-Leesville and then to Aiken.
