Another beautiful, sunny day. But warmer. Which should be expected if one is driving south :)

As you can see from the Delorme map to the left, our route today was pretty much a straight shot. We drove through miles and miles of corn fields. Which they will take to make ethanol while raising the price of bread at Wal*Mart. Quit burning my food! Sorry. The corn plants were not quite as high as an elephant's eye, but they're getting there.

Now The Navigator is looking over my shoulder to make sure I give him proper credit. Yes, that is HIS route. Yes, HE designed it. Okay, he's backed off.

On the map you can see Clarksdale, MS, a small town with a big sound. Here's a link. And there is a pic of the Ground Zero club down below.

Due to The Navigator's excellent routing skills (ever see a dog smile?) and your's truly not stopping for a nap :), we made good time today. In fact, we were ahead of schedule. So we drove over to Vicksburg, MS for a visit.

If you want to live near the Mississippi River but don't want to be flooded, Vicksburg is the place to be. The town sits up on a cliff above the river. I'd guess the cliff is at least 100 feet high.

Well, I'm sorry. The Navigator has informed me the geological formation is called a bluff, not a cliff. How does he know this stuff?

There are very steep roads down to the river. And down there are the casinos. At least two, maybe three. If the river floods, they are in big trouble. Maybe all the slot machines are wash and wear :)

Tonight we are camped at a Flying J in Jackson, MS. A little off the route, but the Flying J amenities are worth it. Plus, I've bought enough coffee and junk food from Flying J on this trip that I'm now getting a five cent per gallon discount on gas. Woo-hoo!!!

Tomorrow may be the last day of the trip. The Navigator figures if we get an early start, we can drive from here to Venice, LA, the "official" end of the trip and then back up through New Orleans to a Flying J in about 8-9 hours. We'll see what happens.

This fireworks stand is barely inside Mississippi. The Tennessee border is right behind the pic. I was impressed with all the American flags they have flying. Another sign for June. Ya outta space yet? Only one more (LA) to go. This is the Ground Zero club mentioned above. This pic was taken on Sunday moring and it was not open. Looks awfully run down to be so famous.
Diamond Jacks, one of the river casinos in Vicksburg. And that is the driveway from Diamond Jacks back to the top of the cliff bluff. And yes, it is very steep.

Yesterday our thought was about a right brain/left brain test. Turns out, that's not much of a test. Take a read of this New York Times Blog about the test. And be sure to follow the link to the Necker cube. Awesome!

And now, today's thought...

A dog is truly a man's best friend.

If you don't believe it, try this:

Put your dog and your wife in the trunk of your car for an hour. When you open the trunk... who is really happy to see you?
