Today started like yesterday, overcast, dark gray clouds, kinda depressing. So The Navigator and I got a little extra shut eye which is why we got such a late start. But the sky cleared up and most of the day was very sunny.

There are some lovely towns up this way. I am impressed with Escanaba, Grand Marias, Munising and Marquette. All these are in Michigan. Small, very pleasant towns. And the local folks are very friendly.

Tonight we're camped at a Wal*Mart in Marquette, Michigan. The wind is whipping up pretty good and the camper is swaying. Too bad I don't get sea sick :)

Looks like we may finish the trip this Friday, 8/22. Then we've got a hard 1,500 mile ride to get home. I'm hoping we can do it in three days. We'll see.

Questions and answers about Australian tourism
Background information is here

From France:
Q: Do you celebrate Christmas in Australia?

A: Only at Christmas.

From the USA:
Q: I was in Australia in 1969 on R+R, and I want to contact the girl I dated while I was staying in Kings Cross. Can you help?

A: Yes, and you will still have to pay her by the hour.

You're probably thinking, "Oh another of Charlie's boring lake pix." You'd be wrong. This is Green Bay. That's the town of Egg Harbor across the bay. The previous pic was taken from the shore at Marinette, WI looking across Green Bay towards Egg Harbor. We drove some on US-2 today. US-41 and US-2 share the same pavement. We drove a lot on US-2, although it was in the opposite direction, on our very first driving trip, Route 2
Flow of traffic? Wow, they must have a bunch of snowmobiles here in the winter.

This is one of those rare occasions when the Thought For The Day is actually meant to make you think. Check out this really neat word puzzle from Kathy in CA:

What nine letter word in the English language is still a word when eight of the nine letters are removed, one by one, from either end or within the word. For example (and with all due respect to The Navigator):

CAT
AT
A

Well, now The Navigator is all upset, yelling about racial divisiveness and how I'm not inclusive. He is insisting I include the following:

DOG
DO
O

I say "o" is not a word, he says, "Oh yeah? How about O Come All Ye Faithful"? I responded that hymns are a special case and he said, "Is not!" and stormed off in a huff. He cheats at Scrabble too :)

Now that he's gone, if you find a solution, drop me an email. At any rate, I'll post an answer in a couple of days.

From Denise in IN:

Two women are new arrivals at the pearly gates and are comparing stories on how they died.

2nd woman: So, how did you die?

1st woman: I froze to death.

2nd woman: How horrible!

1st woman: It wasn't so bad. After I quit shaking from the cold, I began to get warm and sleepy, and finally died a peaceful death. What about you?

2nd woman: I died of a massive heart attack. I suspected that my husband was cheating, so I came home early to catch him in the act. But instead, I found him all by himself in the den watching TV.

1st woman: So what happened?

2nd woman: I was so sure there was another woman there somewhere that I started running all over the house looking. I ran up into the attic and searched, and down into the basement. Then I went through every closet and checked under all the beds. After frantically looking everywhere for two hours, I was so exhausted and stressed out and angry and frustrated that I just keeled over with a heart attack and died!

1st woman: Too bad you didn't look in the freezer. We'd both still be alive!
